Comments 1.

Search engines rank items not only by their popularity, but also by the number of "high quality" links from other websites, for example, from universities, corporations, government or professional organizations, to the target site.  The algorithms for ranking are kept secret to stultify their being "gamed" by search target sponsors.

The articles below are apparently very useful to a wide audience of practitioners and scholars. (At NewFoundations we use this information to help us with research and publishing planning. The highest rank is 1; but, we normally do not search beyond the top 100 items. -- EGR)

IMPORTANT: Put search terms into Home Site Links, otherwise Base Samples may be truncated.

Searches will show slight variations in rank (within 100) on a daily basis especially if the total number of items selected by the search terms is great. (The selection totals sometimes vary sometimes greatly from week to week.)

Rank 1 is the top rank.  "<100" indicates that the item was ranked below the top 100 results for the month. (Note change in this indicator  from >100 to <100 as of 8/2/21.)

Items earlier  but  no longer ranked among the top 100 are occasionally retained on the charts if NewFoundations servers -- not  accessible to visitors -- continue to show them heavily downloaded.

Comments 2, continued below charts.

Comments 2: To verify rank and item population, enter the search terms in a search engine**.. First try newf (avoid putting a space after newf } to locate the entry position for each search engine. (Otherwise, you might try to use, if indicated, gov.eric, jstorresearchgate.net  or scribd in the browser search.)

Ignore ads or search engine (Google or Bing) comments for your count. DON'T confuse the tallied items found by your search engines with their paid-for advertising or comments  (which often looks like a search item) placed above or among them. Usually these are marked as "featured snippets", "ads," or "suggestions"  isolated with separators (or placed in a different colored background).

These search-engine "sponsored" items do not affect the placement order of the items produced by your search.

IMPORTANT: Put search terms into Home Site Links, otherwise Base Samples may be truncated.
