State sites vary in quality and comprehensiveness, but often are indispensable when it comes to finding up-to-date information. Remember too, state government enjoys overall control over America's public schools.

ERIC, which is supported by the U.S. Department of Education, is "...the
largest education database in the world-containing more than 1 million
records of journal articles, research reports, curriculum and teaching
guides, conference papers, and books."
The ERIC system incorporates 16 subject-specific clearinghouses as well as
associated adjunct clearinghouses, and support components.
ERIC is usually where to start if you are doing research in education.
